  • Jillian and Adrianna are two Girl Scouts in New Hampshire that are trying to achieve their Bronze Award. For their Bronze Award, they are doing many things to help animals in animal shelters. For example, they are collecting old fabrics and blankets at their Pancake Breakfast, which they will make into some nice blankets for dogs and cats that are in animal shelters. The two girls will do many other projects for stray animals looking for a new home, hoping to inspire others to do the same.

  • We recently visited the Manchester Animal Shelter to take a look at the place that we would be helping out. We got a tour of the shelter, and got to see some of the dogs and cats that are staying at the shelter. The shelter also has some fabrics that we picked up to make into blankets for the dogs. Also, we found out that some dogs are transfered up from the South in hope to have a second chance at finding a home in New England. After that, we got to see Grace, who is a sweet Pitbull that has been at the top of her training class. Jillian and I felt so sorry for this dog when we found out that she has been at the shelter for six months! To find more about Grace, you can visit http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/20842671 or stop by the Manchester Animal Shelter today. Check out this video of Grace!

All done!

Recently, we finished up our Bronze Award by sewing the pillowcases and doing some shopping. We bought 15 nylabones, 3 cat brushes, a bag of kitty litter, 9 bags of cat treats, and a big bag of dog treats with the money we had left over. Then, we delivered it all to the Manchester Animal Shelter. The manager, was very happy, and it was rewarding to see all of the happy dog's and cat's faces.

KONGs for Dogs and Cats

Our project is officially underway! Today we all met to start cutting and measuring the beds. Our plan for the beds is to put egg-crate foam on the inside of the beds. We’ll make slip-on pillowcases out of the fabric we received from the generous people who donated fabric. Also, we ordered some KONGs from a website that the Manchester Animal Shelter uses to buy imperfect KONGs for their dogs for cheap. We ordered some KONGs for the dogs, and ordered some cat toys made by KONG. In the future, we are also going to order some Nylabones and cat brushes.

Pancake Breakfast Turnout

Hello!

Welcome back to our blog! It was so nice to see everyone who attended our Pancake Breakfast! We had an amazing turnout. It was great to see everybody who has been reading our blogs and supporting our cause! Thanks to all who came!

At the Pancake Breakfast, we raised $400! With this money, we are going to purchase some foam padding to put inside of the donated sheets to make dog and cat beds in the end of June. Our goal is to make comfortable and easy-to-clean beds, so we are going to make almost a pillowcase out of the fabric that was generously donated to us by some of the people who attended our Pancake Breakfast, and cut the foam padding to fit so it can easily slide out. Check out our blog towards the end of the month for updates on how the beds are coming, and some pictures and instructions of the process as well!
